Islamic Clothing - Uphold the Spiritual Tradition of Islam
Islamic tradition calls for clothes that retain the modesty of the woman. Thus, clothes that cover a woman's body from head to toe are preferred by Muslim women. Traditionally, Muslim women have worn plain and dark colored, long, loose garments accompanied by a head scarf so that only their face, or in some cases only the eyes, are visible. However, over the years, the urge to become fashionable without compromising on their modesty has made Muslim women demand stylish clothing. Fashion Designers from across the world have responded and designed Islamic clothes that are stylish, have a western look and yet conform to the Islamic tradition and customs.
Trends in Islamic Clothing
The urge to become fashionable without compromising with their religious values has made Muslim women look out for clothes that look elegant, and are beautifully designed and attractive at the same time. The traditional plain colored Islamic clothes have given way to colored Jilbabs and their matching hijabs. Not only this, the designers have started using embroidery, motifs, beads and other material to decorate such clothes, including Jilbabs and Abayas. The attractively designed Islamic clothing has caught the attention of non Muslim women too. International sports goods company, Nike, has introduced an athletic jilbab to be worn by women while playing volleyball.

Best Fashion Advice for Islamic sportswears
- Find a pair of comfortable loose fitting pant, meaning the width of the pants is right that doesn't hug the contour of your legs. I recommend yoga pants, straight leg with stretchy elastic waistband. They look sleek and flawless.
- It is an advantage to have full front zipper sportswear top or jacket that opens from the bottom to the top for easy access and extra room for leg movement.
- Find specific Islamic sportswear suit. The advantage of the suit is that it merges modesty with performance, that is great for outdoor and indoor sports activities. The suit includes pants, jacket and hijab.
- It is important to find the fabric that offers the breath-ability needed for intense activity and at the same time always remains loose for complete modesty.
- Wear comfortable Amira type hijab with material that breathes well and yet is heavy enough to stay firmly in place, with no pins and lose material flying in the wind - it will be perfect in all sports activities all year round.
- Find suitable hijab for specific sport activities to ensure nothing fell on the face when you do activities such as a head stand, a shoulder stand or other intense upper body movement like aerobic, basketball or tennis etc.
- Choose 100% biodegradable, high absorbent material as this fabric keeps you drier, cooler and more comfortable.
Muslim Sportswear Feature - Capsters
Created by young Dutch designer Cindy van den Bremen, Capsters are sleek head coverings made from comfortable, stretchy fabrics, and come in a variety of styles to match different activities and sports looks: aerobic, outdoor, skate and tennis.
Capsters are sleek head coverings made from comfortable, stretchy fabrics which come in a variety of styles to match different sports activities such as aerobic, outdoor, skate and tennis. The history of Capsters started as a graduation project for designer Cindy van den Bremen at the Design Academy Eindhoven back in 1999.
The concept is based on the idea to provide Muslim girls and their gym teachers in the Netherlands an alternative to the traditional hijabs when taking part in physical activities.
Covering a woman's head and neck as required for Muslim women, make it possible for Muslim women to participate in sports and physical activities without having to worry about their hijabs shifting.
The designs were accomplished in close co-operation with Muslim girls and an Imam. In 2001 the first sports range was launched and has been sold worldwide ever since.
Activewear designed for Islamic belief inclusion
Bahrain's Olympic sprinter Rogaya Al Ghasara became the first athlete to compete in the "hijood," a combination of the words "hijab" or veil and "hood" in Beijing 2008 Olympic. The hijood is designed by Aheda Zanetti from Ahiida, notable producer of Islamic swimwear and sportswear. The hijood is breathable, fits comfortably like a hood and covers the hair and neck in accordance with Islamic custom. The sportswear looks like a diving suit, complete with long sleeves and leggings but the great thing about hijood is that it is loose fitting and comes with a head-covering.

The Ban on Islamic Clothes in the Western World
More and more countries are expressing strong point of views against wearing Islamic clothes in the Western world. Certain countries have even gone to the extent of banning them completely from the country. According to their views, Islamic clothes are a symbol of terrorism and extremism and they are not willing to promote either of these by allowing people to wear Islamic clothes according to their free will. Initially it was France and then others followed suit with the latest turmoil in Belgium going on about this issue.
Although every person and nation has a right to their views, but personally I feel that labeling a certain way of dressing as being linked to fundamentalism and extremism in Islam based on a few independent instances is not completely fair to the Muslim world. Wearing Islamic clothes does not automatically turn you into an individual who is linked to the acts of extremism being executed. In fact these people are not even following the true path of Islam which preaches love and peace.
Islamic clothes are only a symbol of modesty and decency. Just as certain people choose to wear long skirts and pants and not reveal their skin in miniskirts and Capri pants, similarly, Muslim women choose to wear loose fitting and flowing abayas and jilbabs. They cover their heads with hijabs similar to Western women who wear hats and scarves.
There is nothing about wearing Islamic clothes that can be tied to extremism. Women and men who opt to wear abayas, jilbabs, hijabs and jubbas in their lives are doing so to protect their honour and please their Allah. They are following the Sunnah of their beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who was the ambassador or peace and forgiveness. He was a gentle being who spread the religion Islam not by mite but by his own great deeds and actions. His teachings were of compassion and kindness and not of violence and cruelty. Therefore, the religion Islam and its way of life in no way preach this type of radicalism that is being associated with Islamic clothing articles today.
The ban should not be allowed as today the world is full of free will beings, and just as other religions and sects are allowed to wear clothes according to their own wishes, Muslims should have the choice of choosing to wear Islamic clothes openly and freely without the fear of being discriminated against by others. Clothing articles can in no way turn a persons personality into either liberal or fundamental.

How Islamic Books Are Being Read Online
Online Islamic books also commonly referred to eBooks are gaining popularity over the regular printed versions due to ever new technologies offering advanced tools for reading and browsing online. Technical gadgets like the iPad and Kindle as well as handheld tablets and laptops allow technically savvy users to easily read their most favourite books online or from their own systems, where they have previously downloaded them.
Due to this very reason, most Islamic books publishers have also started release an online version of their books to reach the millions of users only reading eBooks today. Usually available at reasonable prices, these online Islamic books can be downloaded in a matter of just a few minutes using a high speed internet connection to be later read and enjoyed at your own pace and time.
There are many online Islamic books libraries offering millions of eBooks on various Islamic topics including the day to day practices of Islam, how Islam impacts present day, politics, social environments, cultures, economic conditions and people in general. In addition, previously printed Islamic books on the basic doctrines and pillars of Islam, Life of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H), Spread of Islam and religious matters effecting marriage and divorce, heritage and wills, assets and property, and many other aspects of life are also being made available in the form of eBooks.
The popularity of these online Islamic books is particularly evident amongst the Muslims living in the Western world in non native countries, as the printed versions of many books are not easily available in these countries. The American and European Muslims specifically, living in non Muslim majority areas, are really benefiting from Islamic eBooks, as the limited Muslim bookstores cannot carry too many titles for their patrons. Although certain bookstores offer to order special requests for their regular customers, the easily available eBooks make the task of ordering and waiting cumbersome and useless.
With just a click of a button, the reader can access thousands of titles and search for their favourite authors and subjects. Major online bookstores carry numerous digital books about Islam in addition to the specific bookstores specializing only in Islamic and religiously related reading materials. These eBooks can be carried everywhere with you and is especially easy for working men and women to read while commuting to and from work or during the long waiting times that they face in between meetings and other business activities.
